Theodore Roosevelt College and Career Academy
Theodore Roosevelt College and Career Academy

From the Post-Tribune: Dr. Tony Bennett, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, acknowledges state senator Earline Rogers during a grand opening ceremony for the Roosevelt College and Career Academy in Gary Wednesday Aug. 15, 2012. | Andy Lavalley~Sun-Times Media

More often than not, I am extremely blessed to get to work on projects that are very rewarding.

This happened again recently with the makeover and relaunch of Roosevelt High School (now Theodore Roosevelt College and Career Academy) in Gary, Ind. This school had been failing in achievement, test scores, and many other vital educational areas for years, so the state of Indiana took over the school and hired a Knoxville-based educational management company to bring the school back to its former glory.

As you can see in the video below, the school is a stone’s throw from the home of the infamous Jackson family, and though Michael Jackson didn’t attend Roosevelt, three of his brothers did and were present during a press event for the school this summer. The Jackson 5 performed one of their first talent shows in the Roosevelt auditorium!

More great news for you from Moser Visuals!

Earlier this week, I announced the first referral reward for our Moser Visuals VIP Rewards program: A night out on the town including dinner at Knoxville’s own Naples Italian Restaurant and your option of drinks at Naples or a movie at Knoxville-based Regal Cinemas!

Today, I have another option from which you can choose: A custom fine wine basket from Knoxville’s own Blue Slip Winery, located in the heart of the historic Old City! Read more

Moser Visuals LogoTypically, when you help someone out, you don’t expect anything in return—as you shouldn’t if you’re simply trying to do good. You’ll often receive a kind bit of “Thanks” from the person you helped, however.

I’m offering my thanks for your help ahead of time, and the best part is you CAN expect something in return—to the tune of a night out on the town!

As I’m growing my business, I understand the value of word-of-mouth endorsements from friends and customers. I would love to have a HUGE base of friends and customers to tell other folks about how much they’ve loved the work I’ve done for them, but as a relatively new business, my base of friends and customers is quite small.

Moser Visuals is developing a Rewards Program (for now, dubbed “Moser Visuals VIP Rewards”) and the first reward we’ve added is a referral bonus for ANYONE who sends someone our way. If you’ve read this far, you probably want to know two things: 1) What product/service would you refer people for? and 2) What is the reward? Read more

The Story

Calvary Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee has a primary goal of ministering to college students on the University of Tennessee’s campus, which is roughly a mile away from the church.

To express the church’s college ministry effectively to new students and essentially explain “Who we are,” they wanted to create a promotional video that seamlessly integrated it’s core values and definition of church with testimony of what the ministry has done for current members.

If you want to know more about Calvary, visit their website.

Director’s Commentary

Calvary’s approach to reaching college students has never waivered since they began 100 years ago, but they needed to really update their methods–especially online. Trying to convey all the aspects of a church ministry in an unscripted three-minute video is difficult, but I’m happy with the results and so is Calvary.

All of the testimony from the students interviewed was written by the students themselves. None of the work was scripted by myself. I felt that added a lot of authenticity and originality to what otherwise would be a crowded segment of church “about us” videos online.

Calvary is using this video to introduce new members to the church on their Facebook page.

Olken is a 7-year-old Haitian orphan who had corrective heart surgery just over a year ago. He is incredibly happy and hyper, and he's got quite a sense of humor.

The Story

Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere.

Even before the earthquake that devastated their nation, Haitians had a great need for proper medical care. After the earthquake, that need has grown exponentially. The children of Haiti are so extraordinarily disadvantaged and malnourished that many die from preventable causes daily.

The Chadasha Foundation is hoping to expand its already heroic efforts in treating Haitian children by making those with means aware of these problems and how they can help. Read more

In December 2010, I spent two days on an HDR photo-shoot of a Civil War battlefield in Murfreesboro, TN. I have shot some HDR images before this, but it’s safe to say that this was still one of my early forays into the HDR (High Dynamic Range) field.

If you’re not familiar with HDR photography, here’s an excerpt Read more
